From Coal Dust to Cultural Celebration: How Little Italy Festival Town Inc. Preserves the Italian Heritage That Built Clinton, Indiana

President of Little Italy Festival Town, Inc., Jacqueline Roberts highlights the history of Clinton, Indiana’s Italian-American

community and the role of Little Italy Festival Town Inc. (LIFT) in preserving that heritage.

In the early 1900s, many Italian immigrants came to Clinton to work in coal mines, creating a vibrant "Little Italy" neighborhood. Today, LIFT honors their legacy through education and cultural celebration—most notably its annual

Labor Day Festival, which draws over 275,000 visitors. The presentation explores how LIFT connects Clinton’s industrial past with its cultural present, ensuring the community’s unique story continues to be remembered and celebrated.
