NEW EXHIBIT HONORS BELOVED TERRE HAUTE RESTAURANT

Big Shoe’s Barbecue brought happy memories of eating tender, hickory-smoked barbecue with famous sweet and tangy sauce. In business for nearly 50 years, this Black-owned restaurant is still fondly remembered by many Terre Hauteans for its great food and hospitality, qualities that also endeared it to celebrities, professional athletes and state politicians over the years. In this exhibit, visitors will view a video detailing the history of Big Shoe’s and many rare photos. There is also a variety of restaurant signage, menus, newspaper clippings, plaques and photos of Ellis “Shoe” Mills and his dear wife Gladys.
